Gallery C is pleased to present to the public an exhibition of original artwork from the small island nation of Haiti.
The art from Haiti is a fusion of African traditions, Roman Catholic symbols, and Vodou rituals. It is collected and recognized around the world for its lavish outpouring of colorful, intricate, and symbol-laden works of enchanting imagery. In the second half of the twentieth century and continuing to the present, a small legion of Haitian artists have combined the rich images of Roman Catholic saints with the mythical figures of sacred African mysteries.
Haitian art has been the center of numerous museum exhibits, including the “Sacred Arts of Vodou” which toured at the Smithsonian Institute, the Brooklyn Museum, MOMA, and the Davenport Collection.
Gallerist Charlene Newsom has developed a reputation for her passion and expertise in various areas of self-taught art, particularly the art of Haiti. For 2025, she brings together yet another collection that includes a rich sampling of late 20th and early 21st century pieces.
