Folk Art from the Estate of Ingrid Wood (1940-2020)

Dec 1st – Dec 30th, 2021
Opening Reception: Friday, December 3rd, 6-8pm *Reservation Required

Ingrid Wood (1940-2020) was a Raleigh community leader and an avid collector of Outsider/Folk Art. Ingrid lived a life of adventure and what she called treasure hunting. Every Saturday morning for thirty-two years, following her initial cancer diagnosis, she and her good friend, Carrie Knowles, would head out for breakfast and shopping, stopping wherever they wanted for yard sales or art shows. She also attended many Folk-art festivals and on her trips to Mexico she purchased art.

She owned many good pieces by unknown artists as well as recognized ones. Highlights of the folk collection include a painting by the late Ruth Russell Williams (1931-2010). There are a total of seven originals by her brother-in-law, Peter Wood.

In the non-folk tradition, there is a museum exhibited Ron Rozelle and an important large painting by Adja Yunkers (1900-1983).
