In The Flow
“Holly Fischer (1976- , NC) and Bassmi Ibrahim (1941-2019, FL) are quite different artists from quite different generations. Holly’s work is born of Earth and Fire. Bassmi’s is born of Water. Holly was born during the back-to-the-land movement of the 1970’s in Montana. Bassmi spent his childhood on the banks of the Nile River. Holly’s art is three-dimensional ceramic sculpture: white earthenware fired in a kiln to 1,945 degrees Fahrenheit. Bassmi’ s art is two-dimensional: layers of oils and acrylics poured over canvas.
For all their differences, their shared vision is Flow. Bassmi Ibrahim’s paintings are graceful and fluent, a combination of intuitive fluidity and disciplined control. Holly Fischer’s provocative abstractions are smooth and rich, giving voice to femininity, sensuality, and beauty. In this exhibition, Bassmi’s flow of paint call dreamily to Fischer’s sensual forms. Both artists create while fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, with full enjoyment of the creative process. Accordingly, the results are artworks that feel to the viewer as though they are alive and moving. We can relish every fold, crevice, pool, and projection with thorough enjoyment.”
