My affinity for the natural world began during my childhood spent exploring and playing out of doors with my friends or by myself. For various reasons, children and adults today spend more time indoors and on their devices. The detrimental effects of this are becoming known. Research is also being done on the myriad ways that spending time in nature improves our mental and physical health. These landscape paintings are my expression of these thoughts.
In addition to beautifying our earth, providing shade, cleansing our air and producing oxygen, trees give off anti-bacterial and anti-fungal qualities that help them fight off insects. These also benefit our immune system when we spend time around trees.
With all of the environmental changes taking place, we’re more aware than ever of the loss of natural space to development with the resulting damage to our earth. Protecting our green spaces is crucial to our planet and to us as inhabitants.
