Durfee’s compositions take their cue from sculptural images or landscape forms. The painting grows with the interaction of color and form and becomes more specific as it develops. The works on paper are almost always done with mixed media.. acrylic, inks, oil pastels and various torn papers. One should enjoy the play of shapes and textures that create a surface richness and harmony. There is a back and forth action of analyzing what works, what needs to be added or taken away…and when to quit. It is as though she becomes the facilitator but the painting is in control.
