Opening Reception: There will be no opening reception. Closed for first Friday in January 2020.
Robert Broderson is one of North Carolina’s most influential and highly regarded painters of the 20th century. He persistently attempted to depict the human condition through various scales and mediums , from large epic canvases to small drawings on paper. His pictures portrayed a strange world of unusual creatures mingling with mysterious, even grotesque, figures. To view a Broderson artwork is always a compelling experience.
Broderson rose to national prominence in the 1960’s when he was represented by Catherine Viviano in Manhattan. During that period he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Institute of Arts and Letters grant, and he was collected and exhibited by major museums in the USA.
Gallery C is honored to represent the Estate of Robert Broderson. This 2020 exhibition presents an overview of paintings and works on paper from 1960-1991. This collection is comprised of major works previously exhibited at the Catherine Viviano Gallery in New York City and also privately held works never before shown to the public. All art is for sale.
